It is with very mixed emotions that I am writing today to share that I have accepted the position of Executive Director for the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). I will remain as superintendent of AHISD through June 30th of this year.

For the past 18 years, it has been my greatest honor to work with you and serve this incredible community, and I feel I am leaving the best superintendent job in Texas. The decision to leave has been agonizing for my family and me as we have grown to love this community.

Throughout my tenure here, including the past ten years as superintendent, I have worked with an incredibly talented and dedicated staff, the most visionary and professional school board, an amazingly supportive community, and of course, your precious children.

This is personal for me. My own children attended AHISD from Kindergarten through high school, and I feel such gratitude for the teachers and community for helping to educate and raise them to be outstanding human beings. Page, Hannah, Molly and I thank you for everything you have done for us as a family.

For the past ten years, I have been exceptionally proud of the work our staff has done to complete our Strategic Plan and help fulfill the promise of our Profile of a Learner. Our focus on student engagement, character education, professional learning, and expanded opportunities and program choices for our students have yielded impressive results. Likewise, we have enhanced student voice, provided greater equity and access, reduced the achievement gap, greatly improved facilities and flattened our organizational structure, always doing our work in a collaborative manner.

As Executive Director of TASA, I will still be heavily involved in public education, helping the Alamo Heights community and all public schools in Texas. TASA represents thousands of superintendents and administrators as well as the 5.4 million children they serve. The organization provides extensive professional learning for these leaders as well as numerous services for them, and advocates for public education at the state and national level.

Thank you for your incredible support, your personal engagement in our schools, and for your friendship. I will always be your biggest fan, cheering on your work and future accomplishments with pride and joy.

With tremendous gratitude,

Kevin Brown
