March 19, 2020

AHISD Parents,

I hope you all are doing well, taking care of yourselves and staying healthy. This past week, our staff has been working diligently to prepare to meet the continuous learning needs of your child during the next two weeks of our school closing, and we look forward to sharing that plan this week.

My last communication to you was on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, announcing the two week closing of our buildings through Friday, April 3rd. Additionally, our staff reached out to all families that day to help us assess the needs of our community in many different regards. Today, I want to provide a quick update about communication you should expect the rest of this week:

  • You can expect an “On Location” video with a message from me, as well as an email from the district about our AHISD Continuous Learning Plan for the next two weeks.
  • On Saturday morning, you will receive an email from your campus principal with campus-specific information about the next two weeks.  This will include information about materials pick up at each campus. After that, your child’s teachers will be communicating with you and your children with information about their classes.
  • If you are a family who has already told us that you need assistance with internet access and/or technology devices, our staff will be contacting you directly. For now, families who need internet access are able to access it through a variety of local options. (See the link for more information.)

It’s important to let you know that our AHISD campus playgrounds and facilities will remain locked at all times during this school closure. The CDC has recommended the community mitigation strategy of social distancing to slow the spread of COVID 19, which includes the deep cleaning of our facilities and the avoidance of congregation in public areas. Moving forward, AHISD will keep these areas locked as part of our effort to participate in our community response to helping to slow the spread of COVID 19. I know you recognize the importance for all of us to work together to protect the overall health of the entire community.

Please look to these future communications coming to you from AHISD School Messenger. We miss our AHISD students tremendously, but we’re ready to provide learning support during this time of distance!

Warmest regards,

Dana
