Congratulations to Elizabeth "Libby" Perez for being honored as the Spotlight on Excellence February 2018!

"In addition to her duties as an exceptional kindergarten teacher, Libby Perez has been personally responsible for initiating the Howard Clothes Closet as a service provided by the PTO for families in need. Last school year, Libby recognized that students attending Howard were without warm clothes and coats as the season changed to colder weather. She approached the PTO with an idea to start a clothes closet where families in our district could donate new and gently used clothing that would be supplied to children and families. This program is now in its second year at Howard, and so well received that it’s been initiated at our elementary campuses, Cambridge and Woodridge. The campuses are working together, not only to supply clothing for enrolled students, but also for their family members. In December, seven bags of clothing were delivered to Howard families. Libby personally supplied new underwear that she purchased and engaged the staff at the school to purchase new socks and supply reusable delivery bags for the Clothing Closet. Libby has gone over and above in her duties as a teacher to ensure that the needs of families in our community are being met and exemplifies the character we hope to build in each of our students in Alamo Heights.”
