AHISD to Provide No Cost Meals to Students Grades PreK-8

The Texas Department of Agriculture announced that school districts in Texas can opt into a program that will allow all AHISD students in grades PreK-8 to have access to breakfast and lunch free of charge for the 21-22 School Year.

While no application or eligibility determination is required for a student PreK-8 to receive free meals this school year in Alamo Heights ISD, we strongly encourage all families of students PreK-12 to complete their application nonetheless. Important local, state, and federal services to those who qualify depend on completion of the free/reduced meal application, such as waivers or reductions in fees for SAT/ACT, AP/PSAT, college applications; and wellness financial aid assistance. Be sure to complete your form today!

Note: Income eligibility requirements will likely resume in the 2022-2023 school year. As such, Alamo Heights ISD will process household applications during School Year 2021-2022 to ensure student eligibility for free or reduced-price meals during the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year while 2022-2023 applications are being processed.

FAQ’s

How does this program work in my school cafeteria? The program runs just like your typical breakfast and lunch service. Your student will move through the breakfast or lunch service line as they normally would, without being charged for the meal. Students may purchase additional items at a-la-carte pricing through their lunch account or by using cash.
How will my child know what items are part of the meal and what items are considered a-la-cart and must be paid for at checkout? The menus that are listed under our Nutrislice Breakfast and Lunch Menu System will indicate which items would be considered free as part of the daily breakfast and lunch program.

What do I do if there is a balance on my child’s lunch account? The funds in your child’s account can remain in the account and roll over to the next school year.
