Alamo Heights ISD is committed to keeping the community informed about the work of the Board of Trustees. This board summary highlights the action and recognitions from the latest Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Recognitions 

Spotlight on Excellence
Alison Monnich
, Special Education In-Class Support Teacher and Case Manager at Alamo Heights High School, was honored as the February Spotlight on Excellence recipient.

National Champion Cheer
Alamo Heights High School cheer won a national championship at the UCA National Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida. Junior Varsity earned their third consecutive national championship in the Large JV Game Day Division. Varsity won fourth place in the Super Large Varsity Game Day Division.

AHHS cheer also won 4th place in January at the 2025 UIL State Spirit Championships in Fort Worth. Cheer coaches are Taylor Ford and Carrie Hill.

All-State Band and Orchestra
Three AHHS Fine Arts students selected to the Texas Music Educators Association, or TMEA, All-State Ensembles.

Francesco Caffrey
was selected to the All State Philharmonic Orchestra. Eli Yun and Andy Le were selected to the All-State Band. Andy played the Alto Saxophone in the 5A Symphonic Band and Eli played Oboe in the 6A Symphonic Band

All three performed with the All-State ensembles last weekend at the TMEA Clinic/Convention here in San Antonio. All-State recognition is the highest public school award for individual achievement in music that a student can receive and represents the top student musicians in Texas.

Orchestra instructors are Carlos Quiroz and Jack Nagel. Band directors are David Stephenson, Matt Moreno, and Troy Chester.

Young Music Educator
Carlos Quiroz,
orchestra director at Alamo Heights High School is the recipient of the 2025 Marjorie Keller Outstanding Young Music Educator Award. The award is presented annually by the Texas Chapter of the American String Teachers Association and recognizes a young Texas Music Educator for meritorious service and outstanding promise in string education grades K-12.He received the award last week at the TMEA Convention here in San Antonio.

TEPSA Assistant Principal of the Year
Salena Valdes
, Assistant Principal at Woodridge, is the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Region 20 Assistant Principal of the Year. She will be honored in June at the annual TEPSA conference. One of the region honorees will be selected to represent Texas in the NAESP National Assistant Principal of the Year Awards.

Student Council Update
Daniel Corso
, President of the Alamo Heights High School Student Council, shared the February update with Trustees.


Other Board Action and Presentations   

Trustees approved amendments to the agreement between AHISD and Kencon Constructors for the AHISD Athletic Complex at Robbins. It was presented by Mike Hager, Bond Construction Manager for AHISD. The project is expected to be completed by early February 2026.

Trustees heard about a request that was previously approved by the Superintendent for a high school student trip with the Theater Department to the International Thespian Festival in Bloomington, Indiana in June 2025.

Cory Smith, AHHS Principal; Dr. Stuart Guthrie, AHJS Principal, and Julie Ann Matonis, Director of Communications; presented campus and department Community Based Accountability System (CBAS) reports.

AHISD’s Academic Performance Report was presented by Dr. Jimmie Walker, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. The full report is available on the AHISD website.

Trustees approved a resolution excusing the day of absence for employees due to inclement weather on January 21, 2025. The day will not have to be made up and employees will receive compensation for the day.

Trustees approved a joint election agreement with the Bexar County Elections Department for the May 3, 2025 election date.

Trustees approved a Shared Service Agreement (SSA) with North East ISD for Regional Day School for the Deaf (RDSPD) program. This arrangement benefits Alamo Heights ISD by allowing the District to provide these services without the requirements to recruit and hire the specialized personnel.

Trustees approved the 2025-2026 PowerSchool procurement.

Donations were accepted from multiple donors: Frost Bank; Woodridge PTO; and the Mule Team and Karen Hasty. The accepted donations totaled $84,683.87.

Trustees accepted reports from the Building, Budget, Goals and Priorities, and Assessment and Long Range Planning committees; and District Education Advisory Council and Alamo Heights School Foundation.

Superintendent's Communication

Dr. Bashara highlighted award-winning teachers and students, recent Athletics accomplishments, the District's professional development day earlier this week, the latest updates for Bond construction and recent advocacy efforts with AHISD staff, Trustees, and students.
