Alamo Heights ISD is committed to keeping the community informed about the work of the Board of Trustees. This board summary highlights the action and recognitions from the latest Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Recognitions

Spotlight on Excellence 
Jesse DeLeon, custodian at Cambridge, was honored as the November Spotlight on Excellence recipient.

Powering the Profile
Michael McElrath
, social studies teacher at the Junior School, was recognized for
Powering the Profile for embodying the AHISD Profile of a Learner. Visit the AHISD YouTube channel for a video showing how he helps students “employ skills for life.”

All Star-Athlete Award

Jackson Hildebrand, was recognized for the KENS 5/UPS Store All-Star Athlete Award.

Student Council Update
AHHS Student Council President Grace McCormick shared an update with Trustees.  Student Council is preparing for Kindness Week in February and selling sweatshirts, they are hosting a Thanksgiving lunch for district custodial and maintenance staff this week, and are donating 29 Thanksgiving baskets collected by campus organizations to families in need. They are also starting a sock drive to collect socks to donate to an organization supporting the homeless.

Other Board Action and Presentations

Brian Grenier, Director of Technology, presented Technology Guidelines.

Dr. Jimmie Walker presented a report on Pillar 3 of the Community Based Accountability System (CBAS) which is focused on student well-being and safety. She shared the results of the Fall Feedback student survey in which students give feedback about their campuses.

Frank Stanage, Director of Human Resources, shared a presentation of a Texas School Safety Center Intruder Detection Audit.

Trustees approved the addition of a new course, Unified Theatre, for Alamo Heights Junior School for the 2024-25 school year. The presentation was made by Dr. Walker and Dr. Stuart Guthrie, principal of Alamo Heights Junior School.

Trustees approved a resolution to update approved signers for safekeeping services at PlainsCapital Bank approved the 2023 Tax Roll.

Trustees approved the 2024-25 tuition rate for $10,300 per student.This is an increase of $400 from the 2023-24 rate to continue to cover rising costs.

Donations were accepted from: AHJS PTO; David and Carey Hildebrand; Mule Pushers; PTSO; Alamo Heights Academic Support Group; CSC Extra Help Advisors, LLC; and Embrey Realty. The accepted donations totaled $44,644.62.

Trustees accepted reports from the Goals and Priorities, Policy, Building, and Assessment and Long-Range Planning committees; District Education Advisory Council and the Alamo Heights School Foundation Board.

Superintendent's Communication

Dr. Bashara shared highlights from the last month including including the first Senior Mules/Grand Mules event, Veterans Day celebrations, Move with the Military at Cambridge, the Gratitude Lunch for Auxiliary Staff, College Fair, Learning Walks with Trustees, Greater Heights Night, and Signing Day for three student-athletes.

She also urged the community to continue to reach out to legislators.
