Spotlight on Excellence
Linda Wilson, Director of Piano Studies and Assistant Choir Director at the High School, was honored as the December Spotlight on Excellence recipient.
Cross Country State Qualifiers
Last month, the AHHS boys and girls cross country teams competed at the state meet in Round Rock. The girls team finished 14th and the boys team finished in 11th place. This was the first time an AH girls team qualified for state since1995, the first time both teams made it since 1988, and the first time ever that a boys team made it to state in consecutive years. Congratulations to our athletes and Head Coach Brian Ricketts and Assistant Coaches Bardo Brambila and Maddie Boswell.
Student Council
Lillie Greehey, Co-President of the Alamo Heights High School Student Council, shared the December update with Trustees. The organization is preparing to attend the Texas Association of Student Councils State Conference, selling merchandise at the Mule Store, and preparing for next year.
Other Board Action and Presentations
Dr. Jimmie Walker, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, presented Trustees a report on GPA Course Exclusions. Students frequently forgo opportunities to study in their areas of talent and interest due to GPA considerations. AHISD would like to provide an opportunity for students to continue in elective course pathways through the exclusion of specific courses from GPA calculations. For the 2023-2024 school year, the potential eligible course list will include Athletic, PE, and Fine Arts courses. Only freshmen would be eligible for non-GPA options during the 2023-2024 school year.
Trustees approved an order authorizing the remarketing of bonds and delegating authority to certain staff members to execute the remarketing.
Trustees heard about a request that was previously approved by the Superintendent for a high school student trip to Cheer Nationals in February 2023.
Trustees reviewed Administrative Regulation CLA (REG): Access Control Procedures.
Donations were accepted from: the Alamo Heights School Foundation, Woodridge PTO, Alamo Heights Mule Team, and the Alamo Heights Junior School PTO. The accepted donations totaled $129,485.10.
Trustees accepted reports from the Building, Communications, Goals and Priorities, and Assessment and Long Range Planning committees; and Alamo Heights School Foundation.
