Attendance

Your Child Belongs in AHISD Every Day!

Howard Principal Holding Hands with Students

Did you know that both the state and AHISD are seeing lower attendance rates since the pandemic? In Texas, school funding is tied to student attendance, not enrollment. The more students that are on campus each day, the more funding a district retains.

What time is attendance taken each day?

Howard - 9 a.m.
Cambridge/Woodridge- 9:45 a.m.
Junior School - 9:50 a.m. (2nd period)
High School - 9:50 a.m. (2nd period)

We've created a resource to explain the impact of student attendance on AHISD funding, what parents need to know, and how to help.

Download our guide to student attendance and school funding in AHISD.

A Spanish version of the guide is also available for download.

Documentation after an Absence (All Grade Levels)

A parent must provide an explanation for any absence upon the student’s arrival or return to school. The student must submit a note signed by the parent. The campus may accept a phone call from the parent but reserves the right to require a written note. A note signed by the student will not be accepted unless the student is age 18 or older or is an emancipated minor under state law.

The campus will document in its attendance records whether the absence is excused or unexcused. In all cases, to be considered for an excused absence, a note or email must be turned in within 5 days from the day a student returns to school. Notes or emails after that time period will not be excused.
