Bond 2023 Updates

Alamo Heights ISD voters overwhelmingly approved three bond propositions in May 2023. Bond 2023 will provide updated learning spaces at all campuses, continue to address safety and security, and allow the district to be better community partners with additional parking, improved traffic flow, and outdoor and meeting spaces for community use.

The work will be divided into three project packages. Planning for Package One began in summer/fall 2023. AHISD is committed to sharing regular updates about the design, planning, and construction phases during this exciting time for the district.

The new high school schematic design was shared at the January 2024 Board Meeting. Construction at AHHS is expected to last from May 2024 until August 2026.

Package One also includes the relocation of the Excel Academy and Connects program to the current AHISD Central Office and the construction of a new Central Office/Learning Center for our school community.

June 2025

This month marks one year of construction at Alamo Heights High School! It’s just about the halfway point for the project which will be completed in August 2026.

Watch the latest On Location with Dr. Bashara for an overview of current projects in AHISD. It’s a busy summer!

At AHHS, crews have begun erecting steel on the last section of the building! This month, there’s also been electrical and AV work underway in the existing auditorium in the Fine Arts Building.

There’s also roofing and exterior bricking at the Visitors Bleachers Complex at Orem Stadium. Next month, bleacher installation should begin.

Crews wasted no time beginning the major summer projects at Woodridge and Cambridge- the classroom refreshes for the first classrooms. Portables were also delivered to Cambridge this month; 4 fifth grade classes will use them this coming year.

May 2025

Another month in the transformation of AHISD!

At the AHHS Academic Building, steel erection continues moving toward the South wing. In the North and Central wings, crews framed walls on the first and second floors and began decking for the roof on the third floor. Next month marks one year of construction!

Over at the Visitors Bleacher Complex, the new North and South buildings are taking shape. Bleachers are ordered and will be delivered later this summer.

At the AHISD Athletic Complex at Robbins, crews are digging for electrical and plumbing for the locker room building.

At the May Board Meeting, Trustees approved Bartlett Cocke as CMAR General Contractor for Project 3 which includes construction at Howard Early Childhood Center and Alamo Heights Junior School. They also approved R.L. Rhode Contracting as contractor for a baseball construction project that includes bleacher and restroom renovations.

With the end of the school year, teachers at Cambridge and Woodridge packed up the classrooms that will be refreshed over the summer. Crews began working the Monday after school let out for the summer.

April 2025

Construction is officially underway at the AHISD Athletic Complex at Robbins! Tree clearing and site grading has begun for the first project, a new softball field, located behind the tennis courts and natatorium.

Over at the Visitors Bleacher Complex, foundation has been poured for both structures - meeting/concession building and visitors locker room- and block walls are starting to go up. Next we’ll see piers drilled for the bleachers.

Steel work continues at the high school, with the Main Wing just about finished.

At the April Board Meeting, Trustees approved the GMP for work at Cambridge and Woodridge that begins this summer.

At the April Bond Council Meeting, members took a field trip that included a bus trip inside the construction fences at AHHS for an up close look at progress.

Also in April, Cambridge Principal Jana Hawkins shared construction logistics with the Bond Council and campus community.

Design work also continued this month for the new Howard Building with design team members touring area facilities and speaking with other early childhood centers across the state to gather ideas.
