Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement Support

All Alamo Heights Junior School and High School students that commit drug and/or alcohol offenses are required to attend the District’s Alternative Education Placement (DAEP) for a period of time. While attending the program, these students are mandated to meet with the Wellness Coordinator weekly. These meetings are done through a combination of individual and/or support group sessions. All other DAEP students are invited to join in the group sessions when they occur.

Prior to the initiation of the District Wellness Program, these students continued to receive academic instruction but were provided no additional support centered on his or her drug and/or alcohol use. According to the Search Institute, increased capacity to feel supported by one’s community is closely linked to the deterrence of risky behavior.
